Silicon Harlem
Since it was founded ten years ago by Clayton Banks, Silicon Harlem has been bridging the digital divide in New York City and beyond. Ground Up was commissioned to lead design of their new innovation hub, including space for entrepreneurs, an after-school program for kids, and an Innovation Space for People where new technologies could be presented.
Our goal was to design a space that lives up to Silicon Harlem’s powerful mantra: “Everyone needs a connection”. We worked to strike a balance between futuristic, high-tech features that would create a sense of wonder, and empathetic design principles of warmth, openness, and collaboration that would make those ideas and technologies feel accessible.
