Dwell House

Let's talk about Transformers: Rise of the Design Brands.

Furniture powerhouse RH opens its first hotel (but don’t call it a hotel). West Elm, furniture company and once-upon-a-time hotelier, furnishes the metaverse. Media platform Dwell now builds houses. ROOM expands from phone booth production to interior design.

What is instigating these (literal) out-of-the-box evolutions? Between lockdowns, shipping delays, and WFH-ers staring at their furniture all day, COVID undoubtedly took the design industry on a rollercoaster ride. Are these companies simply adapting to a new hybrid work reality?

Or is this the future of brands across the board? A constant shape-shifting evolution to the morphing lifestyle landscape? One foot in the virtual world and one foot in the physical world?

Feel free to hit respond — would love to hear what you think!

IDEA SPOTLIGHT

Dwell House

In a clear response to the new way people are living post-COVID, Dwell has introduced a product: a one-bedroom ADU house that can be purchased out-right or rented. This ADU allows people to bring in extra income, include multigenerational family members, or have a living space far, far away where RTO can’t touch them.

In addition to being a gorgeous product at a fair (market) price, it’s fascinating to see a media platform delve into the world of construction and consumer housing.
