Let’s talking about NIMBYs.
As many of us have felt, the tide is turning on our NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) neighbors who try to push out development at all cost. While historically, being anti-developer and anti-construction has been the generally approved party line, the harmful impacts of saying “build somewhere else” are finally being widely acknowledged.
The act of preserving single family home zoning means that efficient multifamily housing has to be built somewhere else — often in totally inefficient regions. Furthermore, recent study has shown that building subsidized low-income multifamily housing actually lifts property values in a neighborhood, contradicting NIMBY concerns. The practice of wanting to keep dense housing away is not only accelerating the housing crisis — it’s also bad business.

IDEA SPOTLIGHT
Sealed
Sealed is aiming to save the planet — and introduce a totally innovative payment model. The Sealed team sends contractors to retrofit homes with well-sealed windows, doors and HVAC systems to save energy. Here’s the kicker — they require zero payment upfront. You pay them back based on how much your energy bill goes down. If the bill doesn’t go down, they don’t get paid.
